Donald MacGillivray joined the department of Agriculture at Glenforsa in 1957 and succeeded his late father as manager of Glenforsa in 1966. In 1977 the government policy was to create family run farms from the remnants of government owned farms. |

These
lands which had initially been acquired for forestation were now being
transferred back into the hands of farmers in full agricultural tenancies.
All these new tenancies created opportunities for individuals to farm
in their own right rather than work as farm managers on the big estates

Donald
has seldom been out of the farming press since his two-year-old bull,
Jock of Pennygown, smashed the breed sales record at 20,000 guineas during
one of the last Highland breed sales to be held in the old West Highland
Auction Mart, Oban in 1992.

The Agricultural and local farming business community raised £350,000 towards the project, after two and a half years of planning and campaigning the first sale was held on August 11th 1994 |
